Audi was not the premium brand it is today a scant 15 years ago. In its native country it still had quite a dowdy image and in many markets the automaker was seen more as a slightly posh Volkswagen than a true BMW or Mercedes-Benz contender. But when the TT concept debuted in 1995 - followed two years later by the near-same production design - the brand's first sports car was a powerful signifier of the company's technical and design competence. It was a design that introduced the themes and details that appeared in many subsequent Audi cars. The brand hasn't looked back since.
With the Peugeot SR1 concept we are seeing much the same thing. "More than ever, the aesthetic traits of this concept show the general design trends of the Marque's future products, renewing Peugeot's strong stylistic identity," Peugeot's own press material states. "In short, this concept car creates a new design language."
